  • Name Thomas Thacher
    • Thacher is a name of high antiquity and has its origins in the south of England on the Isle of Thanet and on the plains at Hastings in Kent. The earliest known records of a Thacher describe a Thomas Thacher of Westham in Sussex living during the last half of the 15th century. A John Thacher, son of Thomas, lived during the first half of the 16th century, and was the Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex during the reign of Henry VIII (1509-1547). A marriage is recorded of a John Thacher (son of John the sheriff) who lived during the middle of the 16th century. He was married to Margaret Oxenbridge, the daughter of Sir Goddard Oxenbridge. The Reverabd Peter Thacher was the eldest son of John and Margaret (Oxenbridge) Thacher.
